Migplye
Migplye is a healing liquid used to clean and dress wounds. Aero Ellisvat keeps a bottle of it, labelled with its name, among the row of bottles on the kitchen mantelpiece of his house in Varaar, and says that it does have the tendency to burn but that "its healing properties are unmatched".[1]
Preparation
Migplye is used diluted and hot, and only a very little of it goes in. Aero hooked a pot of water over his fire, let a few drops fall from the bottle into the steaming water and corked it again. Once the water had boiled he poured it into a smaller clear container, by which point the liquid had taken on a yellow hue, and dipped a cloth in it and wrung the cloth out before using it.[1]
Use
The treatment is applied by patting the wet cloth against the wound, and it hurts. Reagan reached Varaar with a gash across her forehead, cut by a piece of rock face that broke loose in a tremor out in the Kella Desert,[2] and Aero judged it infected and in need of cleaning.[1] The yellow liquid fizzed and stung as he patted it on, and although she knew there was no flame in it, it felt to her as though it were burning her skin.[1]
Aero drew the cloth back to let her recover, apologised for not warning her and then went on with it, looking closely at the wound as he worked. Asked afterwards how it was, Reagan said it hurt but that it was better. He bandaged her head when he had finished.[1] Tab, walking in on the aftermath, grimaced and accused him of making it worse rather than better, to which Aero said only that the wound was infected and had to be cleaned.[1]
Behind the scenes
Migplye is listed under Other in the pronunciation guides at the back of both novels, as Mihg-plye.[3] The books do not say what migplye is made from.
