The Sarakyan

From Sacred Universe Wiki

The Sarakyan was a group led by Elmryn, the Sacred Ruler of the Book of Fire, which hunted the Eyearke Stone in the years before Sacred: Eslura's Calling. It fell apart when Elmryn was murdered, and its surviving members scattered.[1]

Saying the name aloud is still dangerous. When Tabitha Glowdish used it inside a closed circus tent, Long Paws told her she should not say it, not even in there, and Piercio reminded her they had nearly had their necks snipped the first time around.[2]

Members

Five members are named. Elmryn led it. Aero Ellisvat, Long Paws and Piercio joined, by Aero's own account, as nobodies and outcasts with nowhere left to go, hoping the group would lead them to good fortune and nothing more.[3]

Tab's reason was different, and Aero says the group meant more to her than it did to the rest of them. An Olphin hiding in the alleys of Varaar to escape the sentence that took the rest of her people to Morgaedion, she found a family in the Sarakyan and a father in Elmryn, who took her under his roof, fed and clothed her, and taught her everything he knew about the stone.[3]

Whether the group had other members, when it was founded, and what the name means are not recorded.

Meetings

Elmryn kept a study in the castle tunnels at Galecrest, dark stone walls and a low ceiling, an oak desk, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and a chandelier of mismatched candles. He called the group there often enough that Aero could still find the route through the tunnels years later, and said just about anyone would have memorised it with all the meetings Elmryn had them attend.[3]

Behind a portrait of Elmryn on the study wall lay a letter he had hidden for his daughter, telling her that the Eyearke Stone was no myth, that Obellius Kalaar would pursue it until his death, that he had put it beyond Obellius's reach, and that he had little time left to cover up the rest of his research because Obellius knew he had it and would come for him. The last line asks Tabitha to make sure the letter reaches her. It never did.[4]

After Elmryn

Obellius killed him. The group broke up, and Tab and Aero broke with each other.[1] Long Paws and Piercio went into Kantankerous Albertuous's travelling circus and stayed there for years.[2] Tab took it on herself to avenge Elmryn and return the stone to its rightful place, even if she died doing it.[3]

When Tab found the stone again, around the neck of Elmryn's daughter Reagan Hideaway, she went to the circus and told Long Paws and Piercio outright that she wanted to get the Sarakyan back together. Piercio refused. They had a roof, food and people to call family, and he said it was not worth the risk. Tab left without them.[2] They changed their minds a little later and blew a hole in the wall of Elmryn's study to get her out of it.[4] The books do not describe the group re-forming under its old name, and it is not mentioned again after Sacred: Eslura's Calling.

Aero's mark

Aero carries a mark on his wrist, faint circles around what looks like a split tree, and when Reagan asks what it means he says only that it is a symbol for liberation and does not explain further.[1] The books never connect it to the Sarakyan. The Nelazgian Drayzuzian later claws the same symbol into Tab's wrist while telling her she is officially part of the club and calling on the god Nelazgus to hear her scream,[3] and the Nelazgians wear two intertwining circles pierced by a split tree on their armour.[5] The Sarakyan itself is given no sigil.
